Farm Animals
Overview
A guide to the animals you can raise on your farm. While you can purchase animals from the Farmer’s Shop, you’ll need to first buy Drawings for their housing—except for rabbits—at Balthazar’s Drawing Shop.
Livestock
These animals can be raised on your farm to assist with crop cultivation and produce ingredients required by the Cook and Brewer for various recipes. Check each animal’s individual section for more details. The listed “Hay” under required food indicates what must be fed to animals to obtain items like eggs and milk. However, animals won’t perish if unfed—they’ll simply stop producing.
Place hay in the Feeding Trough, and the animals will eat automatically. You can craft troughs after purchasing the necessary Drawing from the Drawing Shop.
Rabbit
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Rabbit | None | None | Rabbit Hutch |
Rabbits munch noisily on the weeds that grow abundantly in your fields, helping keep them under control. However, they are shy and will flee if you’re nearby, so keep your distance for best results. Since each rabbit eats a fixed amount per day, adjust their numbers based on your field size for efficiency.
Chicken
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Chicken | Hay | Chicken Egg | Chicken Coop |
Chickens help by eating Beetles that harm crop growth, preventing interruptions. While having chickens around can save you the trouble of manual bug removal, there’s a small drawback: beetles can be used as bait for fishing anywhere, especially eliminating the need to chase elusive bugs in The Jungle.
Consider catching a few beetles yourself using a bug net. Remember to feed hay if you want regular egg production for recipes.
Goat
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Goat | Hay | Goat Milk | Goat Shed |
Goats not only provide milk but also help chase away foxes that target chickens. Keeping the right number of goats will ensure foxes steer clear of your farm.
Pig
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Pig | Hay | Fertilizer, Ginger | Pig Pen |
Pigs produce both random fertilizer and ginger when fed hay. Fertilizer is essential for crop growth, making pigs valuable for reducing the need to craft or buy it. Ginger is also a key ingredient in certain recipes, such as the Brewer’s Pumpkin Juice and the Cook’s Gingerbread.
Piracy Pork
Occasionally, buying a pig from the Farmer’s Shop may reward you with a rare Piracy Pork, contributing to an Achievement. However, you’ll only know if you got one after placing the pig in its pen.
Cow
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Cow | Hay | Cow Milk | Cow Shed |
Cows provide one milk per day when fed hay. Milk is used in recipes for Cooked Items and sells for 100 coins each, making it a decent income source. However, be prepared for upfront costs: Cow Shed Drawing is priced at 50,000, and each cow costs 25,000.
Placing a Decorative Spring Rider near cows can cause them to get stuck, but it looks adorably like they’re playing.
Queen Bee
Required Food | Produces | Required Facility
Queen Bee | None | Honey | Beehive |
Capturing a Queen Bee or purchasing one from the Farmer’s Shop allows you to set up a Beehive, producing honey essential for the Brewer’s recipes. Some crops also require bees nearby to bear fruit, so make sure to place hives strategically when needed.
Wild Fox
Foxes appear to target livestock and have a distinct, unsettling call. You’ll recognize them easily and can scare them away by getting close.
