When growing crops in your field, beetles may appear. They do not seem to affect Wheat, but once you start planting crops like Strawberries or Blueberries, they become quite common.
You can deal with beetles by stepping on them yourself, catching them with a Bug Net, or having Chickens eat them.

Beetles as Fishing Bait

Beetles can actually be used as fishing bait. Unlike caterpillars or grasshoppers—which can only be used to catch fish in the same area where they were caught—beetles can be used as bait for fish in any area. This makes them very useful, so using beetles as bait is highly recommended.
If you have chosen the Fisherman profession, it’s a good idea to catch about 30 beetles in your field to keep on hand.
